Vintages in Unified, 2013
Vintages in Unified series features old chairs placed among containers. The photographic works started with a question – what are we missing while enjoying benefits of modern civilization? There is no doubt that unified mass production improved the quality of our lives, but individual personality and human dignity were ignored as well. Vintage in Unified describes such contradiction. The series photos reflect Huh’s passion to achieve balance and harmony by respecting individuals’ diversity in the unified industrialized society. From the perspective of social classes, container boxes mean workers in the mass production system while designer furniture represents decision makers. Throughout the history of mankind pursuing equality, such contradictory structure has always existed. Huh may wish better lives achieved when the two classes recognize and respect each other.
